“Whether you've been practicing for years or you're walking in for the first time, you're exactly where you're meant to be.” - hally bayer, founder
Our Story
Thrive Pilates & Yoga is a boutique Pilates and yoga studio located at 2016 Walnut Street in the heart of Center City Philadelphia. Founded by Hally Bayer, Thrive was built on a simple belief: that everyone deserves access to expert, compassionate movement instruction in a space that feels like community, not a gym.
Hally has spent over two decades in the fitness and wellness industry, and opened Thrive after experiencing firsthand how transformative Pilates and yoga can be for both body and mind. That belief still shapes everything we do today, from how we train our instructors to how we welcome new students through our doors.
Today, Thrive is home to a team of over 20 instructors, each bringing their own training, specialties, and teaching style to a shared mission: helping our students feel stronger, more balanced, and more at home in their bodies.
Our Approach to Pilates
At Thrive, we teach both classical and contemporary Pilates, and we believe in being upfront about what that means.
Classical Pilates refers to the original sequence of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, taught largely in the order and form he intended. It emphasizes precision, flow, and the integrity of the original method.
Contemporary Pilates builds on that same foundation but incorporates modern exercise science, modifications, and additional equipment-based variations (like our Springboard classes) to meet a wider range of bodies, goals, and physical considerations.
Most of our instructors are trained in classical Pilates, and several also hold contemporary training. Nearly all of our team are comprehensively certified, meaning they've trained across the full range of Pilates apparatus (mat, reformer, springboard, cadillac, chair, and barrel) rather than specializing in just one piece of equipment. In practice, this means whether you're drawn to the traditional method or prefer a more contemporary, adaptive style of class, you'll find instructors at Thrive who can meet you where you are.
Our Studio
Inside our Center City studio, you'll find:
•Mat Pilates: classic, equipment-free Pilates focused on core strength, control, and alignment. We often use props like weights, magic circles, balls, bala bangles and bands.
•Pilates Reformer: spring-resistance equipment work for full-body strength, mobility, balance, alignment and precision.
•Pilates Springboard: a wall-mounted spring system that adds resistance training to a mat-based practice
•Yoga: from gentle and restorative styles like yin to more dynamic styles like yoga sculpt, yoga with weights, and power yoga
•Private Sessions: one-on-one instruction for personalized goals, injury recovery, or accountability
Why Students Choose Thrive
Thrive has been featured in Philadelphia Magazine's Be Well Philly, PHL17's Positively Philly, and partnered with Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia on wellness programming, recognition we're grateful for, but what really defines us is what happens inside our four walls every day: instructors who know your name, a community that shows up for each other, and a level of training depth most boutique studios don't have the bench strength to offer.
We also run our own Pilates Teacher Training program in partnership with master teacher Ellie Herman, so the depth of training you experience as a student reflects the same rigor we expect of the instructors we develop.
